95 Percent of Physicians Expect Increased ER Visits in 2012

Emergency Room Visits Expected to Jump Next Year

According to a new poll issued by the American College of Emergency Physicians , a high number of Connecticut emergency room physicians have seen an increase in visits this year. Of the 1,768 physicians who responded to the survey, 95 percent of them believe they will see even more increases in visits by 2012.

These numbers contradict the intention of health care reform, which was to help reduce expensive emergency room visits since many patients go either because they dont have a primary care physician or their condition has worsened to a crisis stage because they didnt see a primary care physician in the initial stages of their illness or injury.

Despite the intentions of reform, the survey concludes that visits will indeed increase because many are still without coverage.

In Florida, H.M.O.’s Would Treat Medicaid Patients

0

DAVIE, Fla. — A crucial experiment in the future of Medicaid is playing out in Florida, where both houses of the Legislature are vying to find ways to drastically cut costs, manage care and reduce waste and fraud.

The cuts and changes being sought by the Republican-led Legislature and encouraged by the new Republican governor, Rick Scott, a wealthy former hospital company executive, are deeper than those in many other states.

In the past 11 years, the cost of Medicaid in Florida has grown to $21 billion from $9 billion and amounts to a third of the state budget. T

Aon Risk Solutions selected by McLaren

Aon Risk Solutions has been named the global insurance broker for the McLaren Group, providing insurance for the Formula 1 team, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, and its new production car company, McLaren Automotive.

The account will be handled by the Redhill-based Corporate team, with support provided by Aon’s London Broking Centre.

The deal requires a broad range of expertise and insurance coverage, with diverse challenges such as providing individual drivers with insurance, as well as covering pit crews and logistics.

Jon Cooper, area director for Aon’s specialist Corporate team in Redhill, has described working with McLaren as a challenging and rewarding experience, which demonstrates the broad range of expertise Aon can provide.

McLaren Group Ltd’s Chief Financial Officer Andy Myers expressed the firm’s delight at working with Aon, adding that there was a natural fit between the two firms.

Aspen suffers Q1 losses

0

Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited has reported that during the first three months of the year, it incurred a net loss of $151.7m, equating to $2.40 per diluted ordinary share.

During the same period last year the firm made a net profit of $18.3m.

Gross written premiums declined, year-on-year, by 4.5% to $671.3m, with net investment income down 6.6% to $55.5m.

Chief Executive Officer Chris O’Kane described the first quarter of the year as a time of exceptionally high levels of catastrophe.

The numerous global disasters had a significant impact on Aspen’s reinsurance segment, although its insurance business did turn in a modest profit.

O’Kane stressed that the firm’s capital position remained strong and that it was well-placed for the future, when the pricing environment improves.

What we’re not being told about Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan

The film Casablanca features one of greatest moments in movie history. With Humphrey Bogart standing with a smoking pistol over the body of the dead Gestapo major, Claude Rains, in the role of the French colonel, tells his troops: “the major has been shot, round up the usual suspects.”

Unfortunately, the Washington policy gang is busy following Claude Rains’ instructions. The nation is drowning in endless accounts of how the huge deficit will sink the economy and the country. These accounts invariably feature stories of a Congress addicted to spending and a nation that wants government benefits that it doesn’t want to pay for.

This story has nothing to do with reality, as all budget analysts know. The exp

Resedential Caravan Insurance

0

Sometimes, a static caravan can be more than just a holiday home ? it can be your year-round residence. If thats the case then adequate residential caravan insurance is absolutely essential, much like it is for traditional homes, and if youve got in place then you can enjoy your home with nothing to worry about.

As with all types of insurance, there are several levels of cover that you can consider. This will range from simple third party cover to something much more comprehensive, and it obviously depends on your own personal circumstances (and your budget) as to which one you go for.

Final regulations on CIE

0

The Department for Transport has outlined the finer detail of Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) legislation, as laid in Parliament yesterday.

Under the new system:

The DVLA will work in partnership with the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) to identify uninsured vehicles.

Motorists will receive a letter telling them that their vehicle appears to be uninsured and warning them that they will be fined unless they take action.

If the keeper fails to insure the vehicle they will be given a £100 fine.

If the vehicle remains uninsured, regardless of whether the fine is paid, it could then be clamped, seized and destroyed.
