ICBC Support for the 2010 Winter Olympics

0

The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) is an Official Supporter of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Visitors from the States may be a little surprised to learn that ICBC is, effectively, the only auto insurer in British Columbia. The ICBC “is a provincial Crown corporation established in 1973 to provide universal auto insurance to B.C. motorists.” And, since then, the role of the ICBC has expanded to handle licensing and registration for the province’s vehicles.

ICBC is an Official Supporter of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. ICBC is providing motor vehicle insurance and claims service to the entire VANOC fleet of vehicles in the pre-Games and Games-time period. And it is a big fleet! Over 4,200 vehicles will be involved in transporting “athletes and 2010 Winter Games workforce safely throughout [the] province while Vancouver takes centre stage.”

Because the ICBC also handles licensing and registration, it is also offering B.C. residents commemorative license plates. “Winter Games Plates” are available for $35 to B.C. residents and the insurer reports that 175,000 sets have been sold. Proceeds from the sale of the plates benefit the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

ICBC’s website is filled with information for visitors headed to Vancouver for the games. It includes a visitor’s guide and information and links to required insurance, registration, and licensing requirements for vehicles headed to B.C. If you are planning to drive to Vancouver for the Games, certainly plan ahead and check out the links and information provided.
