Md. health insurance exchange in need of three administrators
The trustees for the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange want to hire three more professionals to assist in creating the state’s health insurance exchange, mandated under the federal health reform law.
The board announced that it is looking for an executive director, director of policy and director of information systems to help implement the exchange, required to be in place in January 2014. The online exchange will allow individuals and small business owners to compare policy options, enroll in coverage and obtain federal subsidies..
The executive director, the chief administrative officer of the exchange, will report to the board. H
Anthem Blue Cross to half its small-group premium hikes in Calif.
Anthem Blue Cross in California has agreed to cut its quarterly premium in half, dropping it to 3% on average for some products in its small-group market.
California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced the reduction after his department reviewed a proposed quarterly rate increase for its Solution 2500 PPO, Solution 3500 PPO and Solution 5000 PPO (“Solutions Plans”), which are purchased by small businesses with 2-50 employees.

Nearly 1,200 whiplash claims are made every day in the UK; six times more than the number of people who claim for workplace-related injury every year.
The cost to the NHS of treating whiplash is estimated at £8 million a year.
Three-quarters of personal injury claims in the UK are for whiplash, more than elsewhere in Europe.
Insurers pay out nearly £2 billion a year in claims for whiplash.
